I'm strictly XC but I do look forward to the gravity-fed downhill, although I tend not to tank it.

The last time I went hell for leather on a jump, this happened:

Used to be into dowwnhill when I was a young loon. i.e. 20+ years ago. 5 speed Raleigh Maverick, nae such thing as disc brakes in those days. Used to ride miles and have thighs like I don't know what! Then I got my driving licence. All of this talk of high speed descents has made me pull the old bike out of the garage (not the Raleigh, it's long gone), and it's going to the bike doctor next week. Before you know it I will be flying through the air with the greatest of ease. and then landing and breaking something!

Nasty elbow. - Saw your comment about being glad your car has an auto-box.

I have an auto too, but when I borrow my wife's manual transmission car, I find my foot is best for operating the clutch. winking smiley

That's fine - but how do you change gear without taking your working hand of the steery wheel type thing (I think was the point I was trying to make ... badly)

Teeth.? - TBH I hadn't thought that bit through.

When I did my shoulder in Glencoe a few years ago, I had a mate drive the car home, so I could rest it enough on the journey to conceal from my wife just how knackered it was.
