Whilst not ideal, we are just back from 1/2 term in fort William. We intended to ski but obviously didn't.
We still had a great time, and the kids loved it.
See it as an opportunity to walk some hills, drink some whiskey and eat good food.
The snow will be back!

Indeed - it's always disappointing initially when you can't ski, but a day in the hills sets you right. Pack hiking boots and have a great time.

Oh aye, I was talking a bit tongue in cheek. Had given up on the idea of any sliding for me a couple of weeks back when weather turned. There's plenty to do around Ballater where we're staying. Hope they manage to get the Wren going at the lecht with snow factory stuff again later in week so the little one can at least have a go. But plenty of backup ideas if not.

Possibly Monday 4th onwards for something decent? C'mon (back) the snow.

The first few days of March are going to be pivotal looking at the ensembles. The operational runs are generally heading in a favourable direction, but there is something of a trend in the ensemble sets to rebound the Geopotential heights over and just SE of Southern England.

That means by 7th March there are a cluster of runs that are positive from our perspective and a cluster of runs that are a disaster because they'd pump heat back North over the top of us, re-enforcing the stubborn heights to the SE/E of us causing a polar trough to dig down into the Atlantic. Thus cold air sinks South of our latitude in the middle of the ocean and the further it digs down the longer the Southerly fetch hitting us becomes.

It's an opportunity for a pattern reset and the way this winter has been to date, you'd think that whatever it settles on during the first week in March could well then lock in for the remainder of the month. It will as this winter has been to date, potentially a very fine line between triumph and disaster (yet again)!

Its all a bit too late.
Ground temps are sky high and many of the punters holidays are over.
Lets hope 2020 makes up for it.

It is late, yes, but a huge leap to say too late. 1998 and 2012 both had huge late comebacks.

Did I say everything was going to be fine? I don't know what lies ahead in March. I'm just saying it's too early to say it's too late. Perhaps you could give me racing tips, you seem to have crystal balls.

Feels like autumn noo, winter might pop back for a bit then feck off.

Gotta be at least 250/1 on 'late snow'.. £1000 would probably get ye a decent future earner in aviemore that's been cairngormed if that pony came in...

There's a pretty fundamental flaw in your odds calculation of twice in 21 years. We can't have a spectacular bounce back from no snow in mid season if there is snow in mid season, a very bad first half the season can't come good conditions wise in the second half if it wasn't a bad season to start with.

How deep is the sand your head is in Alan?
How far away are the straws you are trying to grasp ?
Its too late the punters have gone.
