GFS charts for that week are way out in fantasy land (wouldnt be too bad a fantasy right enough) i would expect alot of changes to them.

in the nearer time frame... weekend is looking slightly milder on saturday before some coold air resumes on sunday through to around mid tuesday before a worryingly mild southwesterly charges in.

the models have pushed tuesdays mild low further south so we can only hope the wednesday one goes somewhere similar!!

does look like sunday and monday will have some very beefy snow showers particularly out west but not exclusively due to strength of the wind.

april skiing hopefully!
UK Outlook for Monday 16 Mar 2009 to Wednesday 25 Mar 2009:

Predominantly fair and mild across southern Britain during Monday and Tuesday, although areas of thicker cloud may bring some drizzly rain to western coastal and upland areas. Meanwhile, persistent rain is likely to affect Northern Ireland for a time, while colder, windy weather with wintry showers affects northern Scotland. For the rest of the week and into the weekend, the weather looks generally settled, under the influence of high pressure. This should mean a good deal of fine weather, albeit with some patchy fog around first thing in the morning. Daytime temperatures are expected to be near or just above average, with slight frost possible overnight. Beyond the weekend it looks as if the weather is set to turn increasingly unsettled and colder, especially across northern and eastern areas.

Not much ramping going on at the mo.....

seems so different from last spring.

As for the long range charts, it all looks quite depressing for a wee while yet. looking mild throughout the weekend and much of next week with some windy spells before we move in under high pressure.

at the mo its not looking too damp or wet with the possibility of some cooler weather by the 22nd.

I recall there was a pretty dodgy period of melt and poor conditions before a big dump in April last year - is my memory cheating?

Fingers crossed, it'll happen and we'll get another April like last year!

yeah, early april the east inparticular got quite a dumping on last year.

just i remember early to mid march riding seemed so lush at both nevis and the coe.... maybe its just ive been working more this year and missing some class days out.

Not too sure about the latest runs on both the gfs and ukmo.... gfs charts now showing a sustained period of mild or even very mild weather but generally close to high pressure. However (the techie bit) the ensembles are showing potentially a cooler or cold outline trend from again the 21/22nd onwards so maybe just maybe we might see a change.

(bloody hope so)
