More Pics.
1; Kirkdale view. There are a few more patches up and right of this view.
2; The largest patch in Kirkdale - approx 20m x 60m. Possibly the patch where Peter skied on Saturday? Marks just visible.
3 Long view of Cross Fell, Little Dun Fell and Great Dun Fell.

Yet More.
1; Big patch in hollow on Green fell at c.700m. This patch is about 100m long...
2; ...and up to 4m deep!
3; Patch below a bend in the road up to Great Dun Fell at c.550m

I have visted some of these sites several times this winter, lastly a month ago and have observed the snow loss over this period with comparison pictures. I estimate that around 1.5 to 2m depth has melted in the last month and on this basis reckon on there being several sites that will last well into June, which is the first time I can remeber this happening in the 14 years I have lived here.

Firefly, yes would agree.

I would also love to be able to take a closer look but there was something that looked like a small patch of snow here: [www.streetmap.co.uk] but I am really not able to say for certain. With the cold air the visibility was very good this morning and there was defiantly something there that was larger than a sheep!

Hi
Took a wander up The Cheviot from Langleeford on May 1st...
Patches around the 922214 area, just soth of Woolhope Crag around the 550-600m contour
After the summit over to Bizzle Burn area, long patches in the burn lines around 902212
Over to Hen Hole and a wreath of snow along the 700m contour staring just east of the 709m cairn
Lastly across to Hedgehope with views to the patches on the south side, also snow lingering at the forest edge north of Bloodybush Edge.
Pics attached, more available i you want them
Will try and get up again in early June to see what's left

Fantastic contributions, chaps. The Cross Fell/Pennines pictures are very interesting. stringy, how long do you guess the main wreath(s) is/are? June survival for some of this snow is assured, particularly with this current cold spell dominating much of Britain. Aonach Mor currently -5.4 Celcius!

Stringy/Jonathan, any objections to me adding your pictures to the online archive?

Unfortunately it was a negative on the Chew patch - met one of the RSPB wardens based up there and report came back as no sign.

Fleetering snow to 550m on Black Hill today, normally I'd be quite excited about reaching 6 months of snow fall but we've made it rain sphagnum balls, a world first! Did cheat and use a helicopter but very exciting development in upland conservation.

Hi Firefly. I would estimate the Cross Fell summit wreath to be about 750m end to end, although it is breaking up in the middle. It is also up to about 40m top to bottom and possibly up to 4m deep still in places. The northern half is the deepest. This snow always lasts well into the spring but this year the build up was extraordinary. As I noted in my posts there are many patches that I believe will last till June eg the Cross Fell Well patch (pic) which is about 40m x 60m.

You are welcome to put my pictures in the archive.

Snow still holding on in the Ochils. Mark Johnston again made the trip up Ben Cleuch et al yesterday (16th May), and found some of the snow on its last legs. The main wreaths on Ben Cleuch and White Wisp are vying with each other to be the last. I don't think they're big enough to persist into June, given their southerly aspect. However, White Wisp might just make it. Pictures here: [www.flickr.com]

The Cheviot also holding onto a decent amount as of the 14th May [www.flickr.com]

Scafell range also holding onto a few reasonable wreaths, as of yesterday: [www.flickr.com]

Not sure when our focus will be moving to the southern Scottish Highlands (seems very late this year!), but in preparation.... on a drive through Argyll this afternoon I saw substantial snow patches remaining on Ben Cruachan and Beinn Ime, and very small patches on Ben Lomond and Stuc a'Chroin.
