Mad River Glen - a model business for Scottish skiing?
Date Posted: 12.41hrs on Thu 28 Jan 16
Interesting article about a special - but contrasting - pair of ski resorts in Vermont. Sugarbush is a commercial venture which began in 1958. Mad River Glen is quite different (and has a single-seater chairlift like Glencoe's to prove it). In the words of Bill Pennington for The New York Times (the article went online today) ...

"... Mad River Glen is akin to a populist movement. Skier-owned, the cooperative’s 1,800 members pay a one-time fee of about $2,000 to join and then must spend at least $200 annually on services or goods at the mountain."

Mad River Glen opened in 1948 - so just a couple of years before Scotland's mountains first saw mechanisation.

Well, Mr Gaylord sounds like the best tae chat tae about the history of the area but I doubt he likes Sugarbush and as intellectuals are banned fae Mad River ones does not see the point as one would never get the chance to chat to Gaylord, plus I'd never get a visa..

Cairngorm could go skier only, it would make any q more enjoyable at the other resorts....

Cairngorm will NEVER go Skier Only !!

Especially now that HIE and Natural Retreats are sharing a comfy bed ! (With Handcuffs)

And with the wave of APATHY and dis-interest displayed by Businesses in the Spey Valley !

And don't forget the up and coming GREAT GLENMORE PLAN which basically swerves away from Skiing.....but enthuses about a new and massive eyesore of a Daylodge structure !
