Dear "Pippin", I've strong reason to believe that you are a director of the Ski Club of Great Britain. Instead of smoke-screening and stone-walling the correspondence above (which the SCGB's chief executive clearly prefers not to respond to) ...

... how about (given the Ski Club's self-defined stance as "the spokesbody of British skiers" and "the voice of UK snowsports") addressing the principal issue highlighted in previous pages, namely from the first post on the first page ...

The fact that the SCGB repeatedly reports Scottish ski areas "closed" at weekends, when they are open. Why does the the Club operate a "9-5 Mon-Fri" attitude to snow reporting (and also not function on bank holidays) when Scottish skiing is a 7-day activity, focused on weekends and bank holidays?

You and your fellow board directors of the SCGB claim "The Ski Club’s snow reports are the best online." Clearly that's not the case, at least in terms of Scottish snow reporting (i.e. the principal skiing of Great Britain and where the Club rooted itself from 1903) ...

... or is the Club only interested in what goes down in Val d'Isere, Wengen etc.?

Pippin, or any other director/executive of the Ski Club of Great Britain ...

... since we are in a media-based discussion ...

... could you let us know when we will see the ABC audit figures for the SCGB's magazine and website activities? In line with long-established practice (the magazine's circulation has been audited since the 1970s), one assumes that the magazine circulation was audited for the period Jan-Dec 2013, and the website's traffic was audited for the month of January 2014. Is that correct?

The most recent ABC (Audit Bureau of Circulations) data showed that for 1-31 Jan 2013, skiclub.co.uk had 19,449 (daily) and 386,208 (monthly) unique browsers:

What is the data for 2014?
SCGB 2014 'media pack' appears to contain no 2014 data:

"REAL FIGURES, REAL PEOPLE"

Just to update anyone interested in the ongoing antics - commercial and otherwise - of the Ski Club of Great Britain ... and apologies to anyone who isn't ...

The Audit Bureau of Circulations (ABC) was contacted on 3 June concerning a circulation claim made by the Club ... in its recently published 2014 Media Pack, for its magazine Ski+Board ...

It was obvious from the ABC certificate issued earlier this year (February?) that that figure of 22,960 was incorrect. Here's the certificate ... [www.abc.org.uk]

ABC responded officially: "In relation to the 2013 figures for the print magazine displayed, these do not appear to be consistent with our certificate issued for this period ..."

The Club duly corrected the figure to 19,880 ...

... with another important change to the wording, making it clear that not all the magazines go to paying members (over 4000 of each edition were given away free during 2013).

Does any of this matter? Many might say it's a trivial matter - a bit like selling (advertising, in this case) a box of a dozen eggs, with only 11 inside?

THE SKI CLUB OF GREAT BRITAIN'S ENVIRONMENTAL FUND
'RESPECT THE MOUNTAIN'

The SCGB environmental fund, established 10 years ago, has been mentioned a few times in this discussion thread ... most recently in the posting of 22 April above. But there's still no word on how much money has been raised to date (estimated at £80,000-£100,000, but only £34,000 accounted for). This is the current information on the SCGB website ...

Source: [www.skiclub.co.uk]

What that page says today ...

and ...

Information given by SCGB director Richard Bird - chairman of the Club's environmental working group in January 2013 ...

Time we knew more?

[See posting of 22 April above]

The SCGB is currently claiming a membership of "over 33,000" to its Facebook community - 10% higher than the figure that appears to be mathematically impossible, above.

What the hell has a private members club spending got to do with Scottish independence? You are aware that the vast majority of the SCGB including Scottish members take ski holidays outside the U.K.?

For clarification see - "They seem tae spend a lot outside the UK"

I would have thought Scottish members would join the Scottish ski club and brit members would join the GB one?

I thing from a geographic prespective Scotland is and will remain part of Great Britain regardless of the outcome of any refereendum smiling smiley. In addition I would note that a big part of the Scottish Ski Club's activities is to organize an annual trip to the Alps. So much for being a Scottish club,

Geographic perspective can change, you should know that if your british and is aware of the british involvement in carving up and renaming countries resulting in continued bloodshed and profit to this day and tomorrow...

Which leads to the question when was Albion ever great?

Probably when the Greeks were coming over for a party winking smiley

I don't have a problem with ski club members going on holiday, but I would like to see a documentary on these holidays, how they act and are treated when abroad, it could be an interesting look at british and Scottish culture and social attitude to and against each unique culture.

As for what they spend in their chosen territories, well....

Excellent to know and, I have to say, very generous of you. It's a delight to know that some bloke on the internet approves of members from a private club going on holiday. You really are most enlightened.
