Sad to hear this - saw Ian posted on BB facebook page

I always enjoyed Adam's (Chinophile) contributions on here and his stories and articles shared about his long distance adventures on skis in the Cairngorms

I never met him, but am sure i spotted him on a london > Aberdeen flight once

Very sad to hear, but we should celebrate the contribution he made to the development of snowsports in Scotland through sharing the tremendous knowledge he developed about snow lie, as well as his contributions to this forum. I was just thinking the other day that I hadn't seen any posts for a while.

I'll echo the above sentiments. A huge loss.

Adam's enthusiasm for snow and ski touring in the Highlands has inspired countless skiers over the years. Long will his voice be heard among the hills.

Same as above. The Camera loved him too, I always thought just the pictures a' him told a thousand stories alone...

Aye, a great loss. But the legacy of his tremendous work remains with us and it will forever be cherished. He was a great man and it was a privilege to occasionally converse via PM on here with him about certain OS map inconsistencies.

Academic, explorer, ecologist, skier, mountaineer, botanist - he was one of the finest men Scotland has ever seen, so much knowledge and interest, particularly in his beloved Cairngorms.

If anyone hasn't read it, "It's a Fine Day for the Hill" is a great, historical, insightful, humourous and uplifting read that shows the character of the man.

He chose his username perfectly on WH, like no-one else could. Chionophile.

As others have said, a very sad loss. I recall a few years ago he made an offer on this forum to take a group on an ecology ramble at Glenshee. I simply couldn't make it and have regretted that ever since, it would have been fantastic to meet him in person and hear a little of his knowledge.

He was featured on Radio 4's “Last Words” this evening, about 20 minutes in. It should be available on their podcast or whatever this year’s version of iPlayer is called.
