Nevis Range Snow 2014
Date Posted: 09.19hrs on Wed 6 Nov 13
Well the snow is piling up on the west coast so about time to start a thread for the new season.

Looks like there has been a good dump overnight with snow falling to below the top gondola station. With more showers packing in for the rest of the week it would be great to see Nevis Range offer even some limited uplift on Saturday before the thaw on Sunday. If nothing else I think the beginnings of an upper mountain base are in place and it will be worth the hike for those that are keen.

Watch the Nevis Facebook page for regular updates including some pics of the upper mountain taken a couple of days back, plenty more snow now though: [www.facebook.com]

The goose webcam is down just now as a new improved camera is being installed, watch this space.

It does look quite good - might have a hike up early on sunday weather permitting. Looks like a quick thaw on sunday followed by colder conditions (at the moment) which should be good for base building.

Goose webcam is back up and running, the new camera gives much better quality shots than the old one and it's looking pretty tasty just now.

Image captured at 2pm today attached shows how well the upper mountain is filling in. Shame the lifts aren't spinning as it seems like there would be good turns to be had.

I got a view of the back corries this morning. Incredible coverage for the time of year.
No photos I'm afraid(driving)

Great day at Nevis on Friday despite the strong winds and freezing temps. With snow lying below the Gondola station it was an easy decision to skin right from the gondola to the summit. Summit, Spikes and Easy Gully all filling in well. On the front side of the hill, the Goose is full width already, as are the summit runs. Brilliant cover for this time of year.

Crust at the Coe and on the Cas but what about Aonach Mor?

With MWIS suggesting 90% cloud free munros I thought I'd find out with a cunning Back Corries approach plan.

In summary plenty pow and limited crust, backs are filling in nicely but still some holes and a 20m band of neve at the top which together with the weather closing in made it a bit more entertaining than I'd bargained for.

Good snow all the way down to T4 and skied along the fence lines (Link + Bunny Run) almost to the gondola station smiling smiley Snizzle coming down by that stage though so it was a case of beating a retreat though had the weather played ball it would have been a really good day.

Here's one from the Summit Webcam before the anticyclonic gloom engulfed the tops.

Nasty weather last night looks like it has taken out the quad at Nevis with one of the chair lines derailed. Let's hope the damage isn't as bad a couple of years ago.

Looks like being a more positive day on the hill Saturday with the winds finally tailing off early morning and the Goose and summit tows said to be running ? fingers crossed.

I was up new years day , loads of snow on all runs with plenty all the way back to the restaurant but upper lifts not running due to the wind so looking forward to the hill proper . Should be something for every level skier if it comes good.

The chair is still off awaiting spares at the mo, no boxes fitted to Warrens yet either and probably best left off till Sundays high winds pass anyway !!

Will be interesting to have a look (or ski) into the backs as a lot of the white stuff came on westerlies and therefore should be lots there?

See yas up there !
