Glenmore Masterplan
Date Posted: 13.20hrs on Fri 9 May 14
Various bodies including FCS, CNPA, Highland Council, HIE and SNH have formed a Glenmore Partnership: 'a partnership between public bodies for the strategic management of the Glenmore Forest Park including CairnGorm Mountain'. Almost 6000acres of Rothiemurchas Estate was sold to the FCS for £7.4m earlier this year, land that is continuous with the existing FCS land around Loch Morlich.

A few documents:

Partnership Agreement: [www.highland.gov.uk]

[cairngorms.co.uk]

Outline Document: [visitcairngorms.com]

DURING 2014 THE PARTNERSHIP WILL WORK TO DELIVER:

•A 20 year vision and masterplan
•Land Management Plans
•Visitor Experience Plans
•Transport Infrastructure
•Communications

There certainly is potential to create an integrated year round world class visitor destination location, but the mountain has to be integrated with Glenmore. At present they are practically cut off from each other by the mountain road and out with a busy day in winter, the Coire Cas Carpark is about as unwelcoming a place as one can imagine - it simply doesn't cut it as the principe point of access to the mountain core of the Cairngorms.

If they are to fulfil their remit then they must at least explore the potential possiblites surrounding a Glenmore Gondola.

Transport:
Review and consolidate car parking, manage traffic flows and seek enhanced public transport provision.

A gondola allows total car parking in the corridor to be reduced, number of parking sites rationalised, while still being better able to meet the winter and summer peak demand.

Through having a lift base at Glenmore, the bus service reliability can be significantly enhanced. It currently takes 2 buses to sustain the present hourly service from Dalfaber to CairnGorm - it would be possible to sustain a half hourly service from Aviemore to a Glenmore Base with the same resources (which would in itself encourage public transport use over driving to and parking at Glenmore).

Most of us around the time of the 'discussion' regarding gondolas & railways would have gone for the gondola but the 'powers' decided on the rail solution

I suspect we have so many do-gooders now that nothing will be done on this matter!

After all, we are still waiting for our by-pass in Aberdeen after decades of discussion

I have a copy of the Glenmore Outline Masterplan Draft 04 and would highlight some of the crazy claims and suggestions made by the consultants who seem to have no idea of what goes on in Glenmore.
The consultants claim 1.4 million visits annually to Glenmore and Rothiemurchus. Just where do they get these figures from? The CNPA claim 1.4 million visitors visit the whole Park every year. I am quite sure that the vast majority of visitors are just passing through Glenmore to get to Coire Cas or use the tracks in the forest, including over 500 coaches each summer. Why on earth do we need an enhanced entrance to Glenmore and a Visitor Hub? It is unlikely that tourist type visitors will stop at Coire Cas and Glenmore. Coaches only have limited stops and coach passengers will have more to do on Cairngorm than wandering around Glenmore.
We are lucky to have a magnificent road from Aviemore to Coire Cas. The consultants suggest that we have a 20 mph speed limit along the side of Loch Morlich and 10 mph through Glenmore. There are no road safety reasons for this. Can you imagine what it would be like in the ski season? Or is a hidden agenda to finish off ski-ing?
I find it amazing that the Cairngorm Glenmore Partnership is trying to encourage yet more people to Glenmore. The area is almost entirely surrounded by an SSSI, with a significant number of capercaillie in the Glenmore and Rothiemurchus forest. I like many who live here hope that this masterplan will go no further.

Another pile of paperwork created by self-appointed EXPERTS.

It will be interesting to see if some of the Managerial Dross (that surely will be binned from CML by Natural Retreats) drifts across to make a parasitical income from yet another organisation that is sucking-up and miss-appropriating our money !!

Is this why some CML Directors and Glenmore Lodge heirarchy are getting ready ??

So they can change Boilersuit ?

Not entirely related...... but........ what about the eyesore old filling station rotting away next to the southern roundabout in Aviemore ?? Just about sums up the apathy the areais enveloped in !!! Or is it the NPA creating yet another stumbling block for progressive development ?

How about a few more strategically sited Grouse Butts and Land-Rover Graveyards !!!
