On The Scotsman weekend mag yesterday:

"It seems that this time, finally, the Lowther Hills are poised to become a permanent part of the Scottish ski scene".

First work day for Scotland's 'new' ski area.

Clearing out Harwood's engine shed ...

Toad and frog rescue ...

Taking down another tower ...

Loading lift towers to take back to Wanlockhead ...

Back home after unloading, and looking up to the first of the future ski slopes above Wanlockhead ...

Yeah, great stuff. Good to see the Harwood tow getting reused elsewhere. Will hopefully lead to bigger things smiling smiley

Saw some activity the week before coming back from yadmoss. Think Allendale SC are taking some of their snowfencing.

From the summit of Harwood you can see the top pylons at YM.
Shame we never did get that connecting lift built. Lol

It is a very cool place, Paul, and naturally photogenic with the big golf-ball radome and pristine tarmac contrasting against the natural forms of the hill. And it won't be far to travel for weegie shredders. smiling smiley

It surprised me how the two areas could co-exist so very close to each other and have had entirely different memberships. There were a few from the Harwood club working with us, towing quad sled loads of their previous works back to the road and that must have been hard for them.

Ross, two sides of the county boundary. Harwood have always struggled with the Raby estate not allowing them to ski after end of March. In many ways it has a better slope than yadmoss though not as long and slightly lower. However it does always seem to get more snow despite facing south.

Just east of Harwood is Langdon Beck which holds the UK record for snowfall at an inhabited site of 1.5m in March 1947 !

Hi all,

South Lanarkshire Council is currently processing the final stages of our planning application for the "erection of a timber clubhouse, toilet facility, engine house and rope tow to facilitate downhill skiing" on Lowther Hill.

Members of the public will be able to send letters of support until 24-09-2014.

Letters of support give far greater weight to our application.

Could I ask everybody to please give us 5 minutes of your time and help us by adding your comments of support:

1. Go to [pbsportal.southlanarkshire.gov.uk] and type our Application Number, CL/14/0358, under "Search Criteria".

2. Click on "Add Comments Here" and write a brief comment in support of the application.
Any short comment will do. For example: "It's a fantastic idea", "I look forward to skiing on Lowther Hill", or "It'll be great for the local families and the community in general", etc.

Thanks everybody for your support :-)
