Date Posted: 08.14hrs on Tue 9 Dec 14
Radio scotland had NR talking thsi morning, about forthcoming ski season
they were introduced as "Scotland's Biggest Ski centre"

i suppose that depends on how you define "biggest"

I think they meant to say "Scotland's biggest on-hill retail and catering operation"

i think we need a way to separate NR/nevis range and NR/natural retreats? assume you're talking about the latter here? smiling smiley

Fair to say they're probably biggest is terms of everything barring physical size, skier days, "mindshare", subsidies, complaints......

Yep.. in my eyes NR will always be Nevis Range.

So when I see some of the comments posted it takes a minute to think "Surely they wouldn't do that!" and then realise its the Gorm that folk are moaning about smiling smiley

Going to be an interesting year. I'll be visiting Gorm at some point in the season, and the only prep I'm planning is to take more cash than usual!

Anyway, I know some have already had dealings with the new operator, but I'm interested to see how they connect with the ski market this year. I bet there are a few *moments* !

Ah, I guess it says something that I just assumed you meant Natural Retreats. Mind you:
a) That ski centre over near Fort William is actually called Aonach Mor
b) If that's the one you meant, there are many good and indeed superlative things that could be said about it: highest, for a start. But not biggest in any sense.

If the mountain is the highest then it's the biggest.

I'm not bigging up Nevis Range particularly - just trying to compare this with arguments about giants and skyscrapers etc.

I thought the word 'big' was clearly agreed in Scotland, as in 'Big Yin'

if i was to be pendantic, the SKI CENTRE is nevis range, the HILL is aonach mor. other we'd have "Meall A Bhuraidh", "Glas Maol/Carn Aosda/Cairnwell/Meall Odhar" and whatever the lechts hills are called (Beinn a'Chruinnich was the only one i could find!) smiling smiley

Not really. I think almost everyone guessed 'Nevis Range'. Maybe we could simplify this by agreeing that it could either mean 'Nevis Retreats' or 'Natural Range'.
