Glencoe Snow 2016
Date Posted: 18.40hrs on Sun 25 Oct 15
Well time to kick off the approaching season's thread, alas not with news of some October turns as I had hoped, but still some snow on the mountain captured on the webcam.

After checking out the overnight radar and a somewhat murky glimpse on the first webcam image as first light came in around 6.40am I decided to can the idea of a hike in hope of finding enough snow to get a turn or two on.

Now on reflection having looked at the cams through the day I think there was actually a bit more drifted accumulation right at the top of Happy Valley and the very top of the Spring Run than I thought / could see before 7am. Given I've practically immobilised myself for several days each time I've tried to carry any weight any length of time in a backback recently after an injury, it really would have been rather stupid to try, but now I'm a bit hacked off at an opportunity missed to potentially have bagged a full calendar year of skiing every month on Meall a' Bhuiridh. sad smiley

Sorry to hear that Alan. Was really hoping that you and Andy were going to nail the twelve months at the Coe. I suspect that it would have been pretty marginal. The Cairngorm cameras made it look much more extensive than it was.

Unfortunately there's been a few hiccups after the power supply transfer at Glencoe, which means nothing is on at the top.

However, we can see from the base that the temperature has dropped around 5°c following the passage of the cold front and the latest forecast indications are for heavy snow showers and hurricane force winds for a time later in the night with the Met Office summit forecast showing 78 gusting 102mph.

I've uploaded a few photos of the new Coire Pollach Tow to the Pix from the Slopes:

More: [www.winterhighland.info]

Lightning strikes in the vicinity of Glencoe yesterday have knocked out the broadband, so currently no webcams are working and it is Friday before BT can get an engineer out.

We will try something else to get at least one or two cameras online before Friday given snow is in the forecast.

Ha Ha... I wasted ages trying to get a photo without a shadow in it, but either it didn't have the tow in it or was looking into such bright light as to be trashed!

Oh and I blame the leaning tower for the squint horizon! tongue sticking out smiley

I would have said that's the curvature of earth, Glencoe's top of the world, but that pished tower is a valid excuse...

Be good tae see some time lapses if possible this year

Internet is back online at Glencoe! Mobile networks and broadband have been off, some of the network equipment has also been damaged (there was a flash and a bang in the ticket office from the incoming phone lines on Thursday night...) !

Good to see snow back on the hill, since the forecasts are suggesting freeze thaw cycles it will be excellent for building a base on the hill to catch more snow.

Hopefully we shouldnt have to wait too long to get the ski season underway at the mighty coe.

Despite a very mild night the heavy drifting in storm force winds that accompanied the snow at the end of the week at Glencoe means deeper drifted accumulations have survived and are now refrozen.

The process of base building has begun, snow showers forecast all week ! smiling smiley

I'm intrigued by this picture of a new PB 600:

I take it this is replacing the other older full size PB? Great to see further invesment.
