What's this?What's this?What's this?

A few people were out for pre-season turns today, that had to be earned the hard way with the Access Chair undergoing the final stages of it's refurbishment.

Unfortunately there is a cable fault in the network link between buildings at the top of the Access Chair and this has knocked off the mountain webcams. sad smiley

Hope to be able to replace this cable tomorrow or temporarily bypass it with a short wireless link.

The Summit Hut has suffered damage in a recent storm, this had is why the Summit has been offline recently.

Nice to meet up with some of the regulars this weekend.

For those prepared to hike up there was some action to had in the Main Basin. A good base of hard snow is building for the season.

Looks like Glencoe is getting a good pasting from the webcams.

The ADSL lines aren't working at the moment, hence the webcams are not updating. We're investigating this and hopefully it's not a line fault and we can get them back on soon.

In the meantime here's a picture at the base from a few minutes ago as the area of snow moving in from the West sets in here:

Somewhere between 6-8 inches of snow has fallen at Glencoe since 8am this morning according to the radar and the picnic tables agree!

Worth a hike tomorrow? How much to persuade them to run the access chair?

I think all snow depths should in furture be quoted using picnic tables as a reference. Centimetres and Inches are outdated. So we now have 1/4 of a picnic table of snow!

Was worth the hike. Hard work breaking trail right enough.
Good to see the Coe Crew busy getting things ready for the season and the new lift looks all set to go.
A wee vid to show some of the fun.

It has absolutely chucked it down for a good part of the day at Glencoe, with 10-12 inches of new snow fall according to the rain radar today.

One of the few times you could see anything at the top of the Access Chair was a brief clearing at lunchtime:

The Access Chairlift is reopening after it's almost half a million pound electrification. It's available for sightseeing and touring, there isn't yet enough snow or consolidated base to open other uplift for proper lift served snowsports - yet, but the Access Run was skied on Friday. The snow was heavy and sticky in the afternoon at that level, but should improve with a frost expected overnight with some further snow showers.

It will be a bit combat, but for those wanting to go for a hike / tour, or just play in the snow, it should be possible to carefully get a lift assisted run back to the base!

^Outside the base cafe on Friday afternoon.

Another 6+ inches at the base overnight and 8-10 inches up on the mountain, so gave the low level Access Run a bash on Monday morning. Flat light made what could have been fun very hard work, given it's baseless and just appeared uniform in the mist!

Sadly the hairdryer come pressure washer looks to be getting turned on mid-week, but the trend in the model output is colder from the weekend - fingers crossed! Keep in mind riding off the lifts at Glencoe pre Christmas has historically been quite rare.

Good to see some early season pics, thanks Alan. Is the main webcam down at the moment? Only seeing the hut, top and bottom cams.

Ad_Hynkel, yes Main axis camera which takes all the views has started taking black pictures. New camera ordered today to replace it and old one will be sent for repair and use as a back up. We will get it back up and running ASAP.

Ah, OK. Thanks for the update. Though looking at the SSC hut cam today it looks like I shall be averting my eyes until we get some cooler weather back in...
