Had a good day at Nevis on Tue, wide cover of newish snow on the front of the mountain. It was great where pisted, down from Alpha to the bubble, and fairway. I don't understand why the pistbasher drove up and down the smae strip of snow almost all day an more or less ignored Allt Sneachda and the lower Goose which were a bit lumpy. Warrens was ignored too. I guess they need to winch cat it but the run was closed so there shouldn't have been any risk to the customers while they were doing it. That's the second visit in a row when the grooming left a bit to be desired.

Very nice up at Nevis today, after seeing the very full car park at 11am this morning it was surprising that there were no queues to speak of at all, the only small line was for the summit button, but that was no more than a few minutes wait.

The snow was mostly good but it could still use another 20cm or so just to cover the last of the rocks which are poking through in some unhelpful places! There's some icier patches, some choppy soft snow, and some hard pisted areas, these particularly lower down.

All in all a really good day, though I think I'd rather see a little bit more snow there before heading up next time.

Great day on the hill. Cracking groomers on the front and still some fresh lines to be had in the back corries for those willing to hike.

Looks like some truly exceptional conditions over the back this morning, roll on Saturday when I can get up the hill, though doubt it will still be like this:

Good day despite the average vis that came and went all day, Braveheart came on early afternoon and provided freshies below the chair and either side for a fair width till the mist came back with a vengeance just after 3pm.

Dropped in at Summit gully am and got first tracks on the best powder of the day, Warrens running allowed a number of drops from the cornice just below the now pisted Wingers wall, unfortunately the pisting although only one machine (or so) wide at the top goes out to maybe 8 widths below and the packed and frozen surface is not great fun.

Braveheart seemed to run well and is due to run again Sunday along with Warrens opening up good terrain without the need for a hoof.

Have fun !

Interesting. I've never seen a pisted entrance into Coire Dubh and I'd read that the winch cat post(s) were broken so it couldn't be done any more ?

Are you lying low this season Ross ?

There is a post if you go left at the top of Warrens its right below the first point you meet the cornice at Wingers. The original hill manager 25 years back talked a lot about putting a turfer over there somewhere but as far as I remember it never happened, think the brain was bigger than the gonads.

Anyway there is a new machine driver there now, guy called Mikey, does a good job compared to previous stuff, top man on the skis too.

Cheers .

Not lying low so much Rick, just can't afford the time or the money at the moment and up to my eyeballs every good weather day in mortar, mastic, masonry paint and magnolia etc so no chance for skiing. I'll be back with a vengeance next season but the 'moffat' part of my user name will have changed to reflect snowier villages ;-)

Thanks for that though ... new driver, new talents then ? Seems like a very good call from NR to provide a more accessible entrance into Coire Dubh so as intermediates can enjoy the Braveheart snow. The roller-coaster on the way home will be their trickiest bit.

Incidentally, saw a report of NR facebook that a lot of all mountain lift users were caught yesterday using zone 1 or gondola only day tickets. Not big, and not clever :-( If you can afford kit, petrol, scooby snacks etc, you can afford to buy a lift ticket.

Great day at Nevis yesterday. It was my first visit for some years and a thoroughly enjoyable one it was too. Plenty of good snow and very quiet....straight onto the lifts with no queuing at any time. I managed a few runs off the Goose T-Bar and off the Quad chair and had a run down Warrens [that seemed steeper than I remembered it to be...but then I'm getting on a bit now...and fitness is a thing of the past...lol]
The views yesterday were very special and made it all the more worthwhile.
Friendly helpful staff making sure that everyone enjoyed their day was also something I noticed.
Good quality food at fair prices in the Pinemarten.
All in all it was superb......no idea why I had not been there for years but I'll will be back again soon enough.
