What are the chances?: Glenshee this Friday 8th January
Date Posted: 19.26hrs on Wed 6 Jan 16
Folks
I'm probably asking a dumb question but I'll ask it anyway. And I am sure some of you with way better insights will be thinking the same.

The forecast for Friday is looking very good. And with the forecast snow today (Wed 6th) and Thursday there is, from my reading of the forecast, at least a reasonable chance that one of the eastern snowsports centres will open on Saturday. Let's hope!

What about Friday? I should be able to take a day off work, and I am real keen (like you all) to get out on the snow again - but since I've got a limited number of days for mid-week skiing, I don't want to waste a holiday off work if ...
(i) the snow gates on the A93 are closed for a lot of the morning (unpredictable),
(ii) Glenshee won't be ready to open,
(iii) there still isn't enough snow (which may be a real possibility),
(iv) roads around Blairgowrie have flooding issues remaining, or
(v) Glenshee decided to wait until Saturday to open.

[yawn I know quite a list!]

Clearly there is no answer to some of these (hence dumb question) but I'm wondering what the rest of you are thinking?!

I started getting a season pass at Glencoe a few years back now, so it's been quite a few years since I skied at Glenshee now, so I'm actually quite excited at the prospect of going back (esp since my skiing has improved a lot over the past 4 years)

Anyway any insights into what may happen Friday would appreciated - thanks!
Stephen

Well as regards #4 the roads are getting drier but tonights rain might cause more issues, it'll be passable somehow though.

As for rest, I think all things considered I'd be saving that holiday for a good day later on, even if they do get something running (a long shot imho) it'll probably be pretty limited/sketchy.

I'm going up on friday for a ski tour, although i'm not sure what the roads will be like. I would hope they'd make an effort to keep the pass open as Braemar would be badly affected if it was closed?. Not sure about flooding but hopefully it should have improved by then.
I don't think the lifts will be open but if they were i'd expect it to be sunnyside and the dink dink for the moment - maybe claybokie (didn't look like the pomas were attached yesterday though).
Just have to wait and see i suppose!

heres what it looked like yesterday...another dump last night and tomorrow too!

thanks for the advice guys, yea sounds like maybe worth keeping the day. Sounds like I'm being over optimistic on the snow today and tomorrow. If they are open Saturday I will go up or take my son sledging to Glencoe.

Big problems in roads around Blairgowrie and A93 shut north of bridge of cally

Top road from dunkeld to Blairgowrie only main road in unless A93 at meek lour reopens later....it shut since my last update

Police may advise GlenShee not to open to stop extra cars on this road system

Be Nice to Skiers, they have it hard enough already

Update from Glenshee suggests its unlikely for this weekend.

"Sorry for lack of communication but the Internet has been off. Things were looking good last night but the snow turned to rain overnight so back to very wet conditions. Sleeted all day, wind has died down now so maybe thats the cold coming in. Because its so wet the weekend is not hopeful need everything to dry and freeze.
Good news on Invercauld Bridge and road to Ballater these should be operational the week of the 18th Jan if all goes according to plan, well done to the roads department."
