Interesting article about a special - but contrasting - pair of ski resorts in Vermont. Sugarbush is a commercial venture which began in 1958. "... Mad River Glen is akin to a populist movement. Skier-owned, the cooperative’s 1,800 members pay a one-time fee of about $2,000 to join and then must spend at least $200 annually on services or goods at the mountain."
Mad River Glen opened in 1948 - so just a couple of years before Scotland's mountains first saw mechanisation.
