Helvellyn is actually looking pretty good for the early to mid April and compares very well with this time last year. The snow is currently being helped by cool weather and frequent snow on the fells. This morning it was down to 300m in some areas.

Yes, think there were one or two climbers a bit surprised by someone taking the quick route down over the weekend.
That's climbers for you. I sort of understand that if you are not a skier and have zero experience of that sort of skiing it might look terrifying, but that is only out of ignorance.
Just had an earful from my mother that this was really dangerous she had seen it on the local news. I have to say I am struggling to see what is dangerous about it, and it looks like at least one other person had dropped in previously, and it's not even a big drop in.
