geeky: but I like it Alan winking smiley

the surprising entry for me has to be the glencoe plateau poma at #4 ?
some serious snow farming kept uptrack complete this winter.

though with new chairlift being proposed for Glencoe plateau it could soon be redundant ? in theory the rope tow and new coire pollach poma can almost provide surface uplift across plateau on very windy days ? (i.e days when new chairlift on plateau couldn't run).

Very much geeky - but useful.
It would be interesting to see a further breakdown of days closed and reasons why, such as; lack of snow cover, wind/weather, mechanical breakdown, operational decision, lack of punters etc.

Amazing that all of Glencoe's lifts are in the top 20 in terms of days.

And it certainly shows that Cairngorm had struggled in terms of low level snow but it shows how great an asset the Fiaciall ridge poma is when the snow level is marginal.

Surprised that the NR gondola is #1 but looking at the rest of their lifts I guess all the gondola days weren't (lift served) skiing days.

Hopefully glencoe will move the plateau poma to open up some more terrain once they get the chairlift put in.

Having demonstrated the reliability of the Poma, I wouldn't have thought it would be moving anywhere else ?

Also kind of proves that access Gondolas and chairs are equal to, if not better than expensive train sets?
Interesting that if Glencoe put in a new chair it would open up more terrain whilst ironically at Cairngorm putting in the train has had the opposite effect?

Amazing to see Glencoe having 3 lifts in the top 6. That can't happen very often.

Also interesting to look at Coire na Ciste:
WW Chairlift: 0 days
CnC Chairlift: 0 days
Daylodge: 21 days
WW Poma: 41 days

Got to be getting on for the fewest ever lift served days in Coire na Ciste. Terrible considering that the main runs in the ciste look to still be complete.

>> 64. [NR] Braveheart Chairlift open for 15 days

And looks like Nevis Range are still working to make sure their back corries area remains the "most exclusive" lift served terrain in Scotland !

Lack of snow, too much snow, or lack of punters?

There are no plans to move it yet...

However : I would love it see it moved to link bottom of east ridge with existing plateau runs. Would open a surprisingly huge amount of expert and intermediate terrain which is very snow sure and currently not lift served.

In theory the poma is still required for back up on windy days once new chair goes in. However the rope tow and coire pollach almost cover that base ?

2 observations...

I'm sure the Cliffy would have been in the top 10 had Glencoe not had those pesky gearbox issues.

Odd that the Rob Roy T-bar was open for 4 days where the Great Glen Chair was closed!

And finally on the subject of the Braveheart, maybe if Nevis Range were a little more open about when it was going to run they'd get more punters to it.

When there is good cover on the lowest slopes it's possible to ski to the Rob Roy from the Alpha Tow and return to the Alpha from the top of Roy Roy. There will have been more days with the Rob Roy open but GG Chair not as I think there was days the GG Chair run without the Rob Roy, for return from the Braveheart.

As far as I understand, a condition of leasing the land from the Flemings for skiing was that no lift infrastructure was to be visible over their skyline. So developing further east might not be an option?

Anyway, I quite like the solitude offered by dropping over the back towards Corrie Ba.

^ The Flemings have historically always been very supportive of skiing at Glencoe. Though it has been indicated (by SNH etc) that any lift going east would come under extra scrutiny at planning stage.

As you say - nice quiet part of the hill. However a well placed short poma of 200-300m could easily open up vast amount of excellent terrain.

Could someone not be creative in the design of lift towers, I'm sure they could be made tae look like opium poppies and some could look like totem poles. A functional art installation, helping loads get tae where they wanna get tae and helping some remember how they got there smiling smiley
