A day on the hill is better than a day stuck at home...

...and I've had way too many days stuck at home this season!

New webcams looking up the Goose and out from the Summit now online. It's taken the arrival of Vodafone 4G to overcome the interference from the summit mast & equipment after the power was turned up a couple of years ago - buts fantastic to have a Summit cam again. smiling smiley

Up at Nevis today good craic with Beano.
Just like up at the Coe, staff have had to graft to keep a skiable surface together.
Good fast long runs summit to bottom of alpha.although narrow and typically challenging West coast hazards of bits of mountain I had too many close calls with the fences for my taste. We had a good afternoon. Which could be our last for a while.
Coffee at the pine marten was wicked too.

Radar suggests 12-15" straight down so far at Nevis. Linnhe and Alpha Tows now open. Can't see much up or down the Goose, but the side view to the quad gives a good idea of what's fallen.

Nevis Range report today:

Last Update 08.46hrs on Monday 27th Feb 2017
Upper mountain: Goose gully, Inside Edge, Cats Alley, Side Winder all full width snow cover with good sliding, Sprackled below tower 4.

Anyone want to enlighten me as to what Sprackled means?..is this a technical term I've never heard of before?

Also.....why does Warrens rarely seem to run? Is it purely down to snow coverage on the runs it serves?

Think sprackled means thin cover judging by the webcams

Sprackle is a Scots word carried over into Scottish Standard English that literally means to clamber or scramble up or over something. If you tried to walk up the headwall of Coire Dubh in the summer you could say 'I sprackled the Back Coire.

Cover looks decent now above Tower 4, wouldn't be a bad idea to double load the Goose so people can decide whether to ski the lower section or just lap the top half from T4. Just loading from T4 would prevent use of the Alpha for access.

Usual spelling 'sprachle' or 'sprachled'

as in:-

I, Rhymer Rab, alias Burns,
October twenty-third,
A ne'er to be forgotten day,
Sae far I sprachled up the brae,
I dinner'd wi'a Lord."
