Moving North
Date Posted: 13.44hrs on Sat 8 Oct 16
In a year or two I will be (semi) retiring and would like to be closer to the hills, so would like to hear from anyone 'living the dream'.
Fort William appears to be an obvious choice, though perhaps somewhere smaller with a strong local community would be better.
Funds are a bit limited, so a property that could do B and B has benefits (i.e. I may still be able to afford the odd ski lift day).
Cheers

Have you thought about somewhere like Laggan or Newtonmore..?
Puts you within easy range of Nevis, Gorm and Glenshee, although the Coe is then less handy.
Good communities in both, although a bit different to each other.
Living at a base a bit further east has climate advantages and would be very handy for touring on Creag Megaidh, and Nordic days up Feshie or the Monadhliaths.
I've pals who tried this recently at Killin but for whom it didn't work out; too far from 'civilisation' for the female half of the team in that case and they're back in Englandshire.
