Touring this weekend
Date Posted: 21.11hrs on Fri 24 Mar 17
I am planning a trip on Sunday. I would love to do Ben Heasgarnich, but not sure if enough snow. Any one been or to that area, i.e. Ben Lawers?
Other possibilities are Glencoe and Criese, or Back Corries? A

Wondering if anywhere has any snow that could constitute a reasonable skin/slide over easter weekend? (We're easily pleased!)

Could the lifts of Nevis or Glencoe be the best bets for access? Any thoughts?

Nevis said they are officially closed for skiing on Facebook earlier on.

Yes it is well worth heading the summit gully area. I was there the weekend just gone. Have a look at this video for current conditions. The staff at NR didn't seem to know how much snow there is.

Might be worth keeping an eye on the webcams. The weather this week is looking like it may bring snow to the tops of Glencoe ski centre.
Still some slim pickings to be had in the Main Basin.
No sign of that cuckoo with its repetitive annoying call ...yet. ;-)

Thanks all.

Donald M: Good video! That looks very interesting! Pardon my ignorance but, with the exception of the main Back Corries area around the Braveheart Chair, I'm not too familiar with the Nevis Range off piste/backcountry...

Where's the access to Summit Gully? Er, presumably from the summit smiling smiley

I've got the OS map if that will assist with directions.

Summit Gully is to the far skiers right of the Coire beyond Coire an Lochan, while Spikes is the snowfield towards skiers left of the same Coire. From the top of the Summit Tow you have to hoof over the narrow summit plateau. With no uplift it's a pretty big day out.

The temperatures are now likely to stay below freezing for a few days and with little new snow forecast the remaining snow pack will be by now rock hard. Hence I suspect anyone on skis will need extremely sharp edges and very good technique
