Part buried spikes from old Ciste Towers
Date Posted: 21.52hrs on Tue 16 Jan 18
Superb job done by CML/NR clearing the old towers from the Ciste - NOT!

Ron Walker just posted some pics of huge metal spikes part buried in drifting snow. Gonna be a great obstacle when the snow gets deeper.

Watch where you ski...

That is quite literally a death trap and Cairngorm need to remove these immediately. That does not mean cutting them down, but digging them out fully.

If they do not, a report to the H&S executive is in order.

If there was a bit more snow so only the spikes were exposed. Someone could quite easily ski into them and would be seriously injured or worse killed. The contractor and CML would presumably face prosecution. Would certainly be bad press for CML.

What strikes me is that somoene has had the complete lack of common sense or moral obligation to leave a hazard like this within a ski area and say job done!

Cue CM to barrier off ciste gully and associate routes for the season. sad smiley
Yet another reason to avoid the place. Being able to ski out ciste at the end of the day was one of the few things that offered a little hope.

Unbelievable stupidity. Outstanding lack of human intelligence, Par for the course for these eejits then I suppose!
If there's anyone at CML or NR or whoever is meant to be in charge up there reading this thread, please please try using your brains before someone gets killed because of your stupidity. It's one thing to destroy a ski resort, but manslaughter is going a bit too far don't you think?

didn't they remove the towers to mitigate a health and safety risk?

I emailed Parkswatch Scotland who have picked it up, and have informed HIE:

Genuinely makes me grimace when I think about what could happen encountering something like that on the hill.

Not cool. Someone needs taken to task over that for sure.
