Thats great news Alan! I wonder if NR have any other projects in the pipeline they are not going public about?

After the on-off on-off performance of the summit button this year, noted on 3 seperate days, doubling it up would be a smart move, especially if it was a poma with a curve station so it could double up the gouse T-bar halfway or all the way down as well...

They should focus on getting the current uplift to run reliably. Gorgeous uplift, some of the best kit money can buy and yet they are so often not running or running at reduced capacity or keep folk hanging on...

I'm afraid I see too many similarities between Nevis and Cairngorm. I avoid both, if at all possible.

Other than the perennial issue of non-operation of the Braveheart Chair, I've never had issues with Nevis - I love the variety of the ski area, the big vertical and the fact that, even when the car park appears full, I've never seen bad queues on the mountain.

Not to mention that the Back Corries are just amazing.

While I'm at it, I love all of the Scottish areas - including Cairngorm...Just love skiing really!

Oversteer, I wonder how you would rate the resorts out of 10, for both effort and skier experience?

Heres my verdict, and yes, I wish winterhighland had the ability to post/create polls

Nevis 6/10, 7/10
Glencoe 10/10, 8/10
Glenshee 7/10 6/10
Cairngorm 2/10 3/10
Lecht 8/10 4/10

my local ski hills
Raise 8/10 7/10
Yad Moss 7/10 7/10

Interesting. Perhaps a guess but plenty of accuracy elsewhere on the site. Badly needed.

Interesting to see how long the Carn Aosda T bar is (900m). Only six other tows are longer; Glas Moal, Butcharts Access, west Wall, Corrie Cas, M1 and Fiaciall Ridge.

Mostly agree, except from Lecht effort which is definitely a 10

Lecht would only get a 10 if they had more of a commitment to running the Falcon and Harrier.

The lecht just suffers really because of the lack of terain and height of the top lift (at Glencoe, Cairngorm, Nevis range with the avalible uplift, its possible to do skiing between the 900m-1200m range, which the lecht can't offer, but the snowfactory will make up for this.

Took my family out for a chairlift ride in Glenshee about few days ago, I spoke to the ski patroller about the plans for a new chairlift, sadly there are no plans in place for the next season, they are currently upgrading the existing lifts such as Sunnyside poma and other lifts, due to a bad season last year, they still need more funds for a new chairlift to replace the Cairnwell T-bar.

I had six trips to Glenshee during Jan-Mar 2018, including weekends, half term and mid week days. The combination of the 3-chair Carinwell lift, plus the reworking of the Cairn-Asoda T-bar into a hybrid lift, meant that there were never serious queues on this side of the main valley with plenty of uplift to keep things moving. A new quad-chair would be great, but I can see that improving and maintaining the lifts to Sunnyside and beyond makes more sense. Main disappointment was that Glas Maol was seldom open, mainly because the snow conditions were poor (too icy) and for the first half of the season the lift was iced up.

Good to see maintenance on Caenlochan since that lift did get jammed rather a lot.

Here's to another great season.

@phil.

I think Glenshee is aiming to have a 'core lift area' with high capacity that they can open quicker. I'll bet that after the quad they will invest in snowmaking on the cairnwell side so that they can always/quickly open that part while still having the caoacity for crowds. While opening Glas Moal is nice, it's a nice niche, but the brunt of the punters would rather see a guarenteed area (cairnwell, which is still rather big) then them investing a lot in Glas Moal which requires a lot of lifts to open first. No other area in Scotland would be able to open top to bottem area on three chairlifts if the chair + snowmaking would go in on the cainrwell side. Just imagine a Snow factory offering the cairnwell run + Claybokie. Accesed by the chair.

Hi ML

Agree that having a 'guaranteed' top to bottom skiing on the Cairnwell side would be great and can see your point in investing in the West side. I did have two days when only the main valley was open and there was still plenty to keep me going. The work on getting the Cairn-Asoda lift running was well worth it, giving access to a long blue run and taking away some of the queues from the neighbouring Poma.

If money/access/wind was no object then I'd vote for the quad chair going up Cairn-Asoda, which would give access to most of Butcharts. Although suspect that it's likely to be too exposed and would risk being closed or icy at the top, whereas can see proposed replacement Cairnwell T-bar is a safer option.

I took plenty of photos on the Cairnwell T-bar, assuming that it would be my last trip, but looks like I can admire the ironwork for another season.

No doubt Glenshee will be monitoring the performance of the new snow factories at the Lecht and Glencoe. Not spending money on a new chair this year might mean there is money available for a packaged snow making system, if they decide that is the way to go. Having second and third thoughts on big projects is usually a good thing in the long run. I wonder if Cairngorm will think again ?
