There was early snow in Oct last year. I had several days skiing on the Clashindarroch trails. That just missed by one the earliest start (26th) to Clash skiing. But maybe you don't think that proper skiing :-)

Think the OP was asking about the latest start to a season, not the earliest!

...and when did that season finish at the Coe?... i.e. late start gives a late finish?...

Not sure of the exact finish date, but think it turned out to be a pretty good season.

2006 : No uplift at Glencoe until February 19th. But after that we actually had a surprisingly good season. Some great powder days into April. Reason I remember is that despite the late start the plateau was complete until may day holiday. Which is unusual.

Funnily enough that last 2 winters have almost been the best (2017/18) and worst (2016/17) that I can remember. So who knows what this winter will bring...

It is not uncommon for the skiing to be limited / crap at this time of year.
All the models point towards a return to snowier weather from mid January onward.
Ultimately Scottish skiing depends on the wind building up big drifts in the gullies. So far we simply haven't had any big atlantic winter storms to build a base.

Agree with last season being one of the best. I was at Glenshee with family on 8 January last winter and had a good day (although much better was to be had later in the month and through February). I even took a photo going up the Cairnwell T-bar since I'd heard rumours that it was going to be replaced by a 4 seater chair (ha, ha).

I don’t remember there being THAT many pre new year seasons, and the ones that did I’m pretty sure we’re mostly crap. Way too early to make any judgements.

Wasn’t 1988/89 a very late start?
I remember getting a great deal on a new pair if skis in late January because there had been little or no skiing at that point and therefore no demand for equipment.

As far as I remember 2007 was rubbish in Europe - no fresh snow for 14 weeks. Also hardly a flake fell nor a tow turned in England.
I did not go to Scotland that season - so maybe someone can confirm good or bad?
