Summit to moor riding on offer and with some brighter spells expected Tuesday, could get to see todays snow instead of just feel it!

^Low level Red Access Run had better visibility and light!

^Deep snow at the top of the Access Chair over to the Plateau Poma.

It's been looking incredible today.

Did they have to close early? I am looking at the webcams just before 4pm and it is empty. Would normally expect a few stragglers about.

Thoughts on Sunday. Worth the 300 mile drive from Manchester or weather too marginal?

Early days I know when it's Scotland but would probably drive up Saturday and tent it like the *ard bast**d I am (not)

Looks like carpark freshies on Sunday and I've not seen a base like this, this low for I don't know how long. Itching and don't want to miss this

Forecast seems to have changed from sunny spells to heavy snow and 70mph winds. Top Scottish stuff.

Even better, get the hottie in the tent

I thought aw the wind was tae be down NW of England ?

You'll need a golden tongue and a lotta vodka for that unless yer willing tae accept an east coast accent for the night....

It looks like it will be a close run thing with a sharp divide between light to moderate cyclonically variable winds and howling Storm Force Westerlies! Another scenario is that rather than a large complex of two or more low pressure centres this just forms one tighter deeper bomb which would likely track a bit further North.

Might be able to get up Sunday too if you fancy sharing a ride. I also live in Manchester. Low confidence in the forecast. Saturday looks alright but forecast for Sunday is all over the show. Need to wait and see yet.

Getting close to my bedtime but will try and get a photo-report uploaded tomorrow.

Enormous amounts of snow on the mountain. We're only 1 big storm away from snow depths similar to when the ski-patrol hut disappearred in 2017/18.

Spring skiing at Glencoe is going to be fantastic. Maybe the team at Glencoe should consider approaching some of the ever-multipling streetfood van businesses in the central belt to see if they can run foodservices in the carpark or on the deck at the Eagles Rest in late March/April. This could make a short term good thing out of the sad demise of the base station building.

Hugely gusty wind and rapid onset snow showers resulted in conditions switching quickly from bluebird day to being unable to see ones feet within seconds. Luckily the plataeu-chateau coped relatively well with the numbers seeking shelter throughout the day, typically feeling like a nightclub at 1215ish on a non-payday night out.

Main basin was lovely stuff. Soft, powdery, windblown snow. Etive glades and the upper parts of the wall were a bit (but managably) windslabby by mid-morning. I didn't venture to the spring run due to the sudden changes in visibility.

Rannoch button uptrack is moderately scoured in the usual places but I imagine this could be addressed with the skills of the Pistenbully drivers if it gets crazy busy at the weekend.

The blue access run has been heavily pisted particuarly lower down and looks like it has a chance of lasting for as long as it did in 2017/18. The red access run is in great shape with the usual problem narrow area beside the stream/massive rocks (is this "Carnage Corner"?). The Dark Side black access run looked good from the chair in the morning but I wasn't brave enough to tackle it later on due to the sastrugi and windslab formation I'd seen elsewhere.

Car park was moderately bust and very well cleared first thing this morning with all markings visible on our arrival before 9am but still the bizarre parking continues: 3 door runarounds parked in such a way to occupy 4 spaces, coaches straddling the middle of the carpark and someone parked across the lower exit spot for the entire carpark at 230pm resulting in everyone having to drive all the way to the top of the car park and back down again to exit. The silly parking is a major ongoing issue even on quietish days like today: it seems difficult to explain this as being due to one or two idiots. There must be more to this. Unfortunately I don't know anything about car parking infastructure so I can't say anything other than this needs looked at by someone who does.

Last word goes to the liftie on the plateau poma who was worried (whilst a blizzard was ongoing) that I might have a cold face due to my lack of a buff. Legend.

Yes. Met Office forecast has improved while MWIS looks worse. Toss of a coin stuff. Forecast for Saturday has definitely deteriorated. Yesterday it looked much better but now Met Office especially says Sunday better. ????

There is so much snow up there now... and they are working hard to clear a channel out on the Main Basin T uptrack.

Where did the Haggis Trap go?
