Thought I'd start a new thread for any photos of the ski centres and surrounding mountains in summer - as well as any ongoing work progress at the ski centres.

I was at Glencoe yesterday and took the photos attached, showing progress of the access chair and rebuilt access chair platform.

Thanks a lot sspeirs.
I'm going up in late August. I can get some photos then. A great job from Andy and the team getting the new platform and hut built at the end of the Acsess chair.

This work was done, as far as I am aware, because of subsidence.

The new plateua chair looks good, but clearly there is a lot more work to be done - not forgetting that around 122 chairs, each weighing over 100kg need to be transported up to 650m. I have several friends who don't like the plateau poma who will really like the new chair and may favour a visit to glencoe over NR and certainly CG given this new facility.

Of course another advantage is the accsesibilty during early and late season and the added potential for easy MTB trails (I know Andy wants to introduce this)

Brilliant work by Andy and the team after a trashed winter season. Major progress driven by leadership and vision - what a contrast to the consultant delegated consultation faffing about to inform and assist decision (not)making going on across on Speyside.

Thinking about the temporary modular cafe currently in the car park, perhaps it might have a future life replacing the plateau cafe ? Assuming it is large enough to accommodate at least double the current number of Plateau customers, might a larger cafe near the skiing and sledging increase future revenue ?

Money permitting, the modular units could be purchased and relocated up the hill. They could be inserted wholly inside a new single skin steel frame building, of similar construction to the nearby Kassbohrer garage. The difference would be windows!

The advantage of a building within a building would be speed of construction and cost effectiveness. The Glencoe team would probably be able to do all the work themselves, significantly lowering the project cost and time risk. Placing a modular building inside a steel frame shed should offer simplicity of construction and superb protection from storms, driving rain and UV exposure.

Fire risk would need to be carefully considered however !

What about Eagles Rest Cafe? That places has great views and now its just a toilet block. I think there is the opotunity for development so that walkers and sightseers arive at somewhere proper, like Nevis Range.

The Eagles Rest was never really a cafe, it was a long narrow cupboard with a serving counter a third of the way in, pretty much a kettle for instant coffee, tea and pot noodles was its limit, with no inside seating.

Indeed, that isnt the definition of a cafe. Still, I think it would be a good location for one in the Summer.

Does anyone know if Glencoe is planning to have the plateau chair running for this winter ? Is anything actually happening at Glenshee in relation to lifts at Glenshee ?

Drove past Glenshee a couple of days ago. Everything looked tidy. No sign of any new projects but I don’t think they have a need for any in the near future ? I suspect the planning approval for the Cairnwell tow may have expired by now. I can imagine that the money for that was diverted into the snow factory which seemed to be effective last year.
