So WeeSam, what's your alternative? Given that dealing with covid during periods of non-lockdown has just about overwhelmed every health service in the world to the point of collapse, are you seriously suggesting just letting it run? How will your prematurely ageing Glaswegians cope when they can't get any medical treament for anything if the NHS collapses?

The management of the pandemic by the various UK governments has been generally atrocious, but that doesn't mean that it is all wrong.

A good example of extremism today. There a few people who agree to this 'let it rip', but if you say anything against lockdown at all you are part of the tin hat brigade.

There is a middle ground, a proportionate one that many risks [including winter sports] use to ensure that life becomes more than just avoiding death.

The right wing are thick as fck, go look through the comments of the daily mail and you'll see thousands a' sameejits.

If the ones in shops that don't wear masks around here all happened tae snuff it we'd easily get Independence, there'd be a lot less racists about too and manchesters streets will be forever safe fae hooligans, letting it rip amongst the thick could be beneficial to society as a whole...

Hopefully we'll be over this shite soon and next year can one big party, party for ending the lockdown and one for last time we see have a new self titled king in charge!

Level 4 travel restrictions are being partially lifted from 6pm on Friday 16th April - that means travel within the level 4 zone (ie currently all of mainland Scotland) are lifted for outdoor socialising, outdoor sport and recreation.

This means anyone in mainland Scotland can travel to any mainland Scottish mountain. People breaking the travel rules was given as the reason for not lifting the closure of ski areas in early April and allowing level 4 operations of the snowsports areas to resume as prior to 6th January.

Questions are being asked to clarify whether this will allow level 4 uplift operations to resume, but we might not get a definitive answer until updated statutory instruments are published later this week.

Well yes a certain centre that was open and clearly making no attempt to restrict sales to those eligible, who when the pictures made the papers engaged in some spectacular covidiocy to justify what happened have a lot to answer for.

Well a statutory instrument was published this evening and it doesn't change any of the current business restrictions in Level 4, which now look as if this is how level 4 will remain.

Regulation 4(4) relates to outdoor exercise or outdoor recreation as examples of a reasonable excuse for entering or leaving a Level 4 area. Paragraph 16 is amended so that the condition that outdoor exercise or recreation must start and end at the same place, which must be in the local government area in which the person lives, or within 5 miles of that area no longer, applies in order for the reasonable excuse to be available.

The change though does mean from midnight (20mins after posting) it will be possible for anyone in mainland Scotland to travel to any other part of Scotland for mountain activities, providing it does not involve a stay away from home overnight.

It also means 6 people from 6 different households can legitimately meet up to go hill walking or ski touring for example.

[Edit]Pedantic point - travel from islands to the mainland for non-essential purposes is only from level 4 islands. Travel from Level 3 areas of both Highland, and Argyll & Bute into level 4 is not currently permitted for non essential reasons!

There's likely to be an increase in the number of people hitting CairnGorm and Glencoe on Friday, but please remember no facilities are available other than the carparks. We find out on Tuesday whether the shift to level 3 is going ahead on the 26th and whether travel restrictions for non essential travel to/from the rest of the Common Travel Area will be lifted.

From Monday 26th all level 4 areas will move to level 3 and non essential travel from / to Scotland from the rest of Great Britain will resume. NI and remainder of the CTA subject to local rules on travel so long as they remain.

At the very least the Access Chair and base cafe will reopen at Glencoe on Monday. Hill is being assessed today and then at end of week to assess degree of change if any in cover over the period and thus the prognosis for resuming lift served snowsports on Monday 26th April! Fingers crossed for settled cool conditions!

If there is to be lift served snow sports tickets will have to pre purchased online as in early January, but anyone from Scotland, England and Wales can come. Hotels can also reopen Monday, as will the campsite and hobbit houses at Glencoe.

A further statuary instrument has been published, which takes effect from Monday - of concern for the future is that the requirement to close snowsports areas remains a requirement in Level 4 country to the position at the start of the season where the understanding going into the season was uplift was permitted unto and including Level 4 lockdown subject to the travel restrictions.

A Scottish football referee, a Scottish Politician and a Scottish 'writer' for The Sun walk into a bar. They nod approvingly, knowing they get paid deviate being of no value to their 'profession'.

It is beyond a joke now. Go get a haircut for 3 hours in a pokey unventilated shop or go skiing in the purest mountain air...

Looks to me like the foundations are being laid for the annihilation of a third
winter season. You can just see the plug being pulled at the first hint of
a scary new variant. i'm getting too old to miss any more snowy seasons, so it's
off to the splitboard shop for me. Hope to see you all in the mountains next winter, one way or another.
fingers crossed for a short summer.

snawchaser.
