I'm just curious, Where's the longest run in Scotland, and how long is it?

I guess the longest run in Scotland would be from the summit of Nevis Range back to the car park. Although that gives a vertical descent of 4000ft it is very rarely skiable, maybe only for a few days each season, if that.

Other "lift serviced" long runs would be

Cairngorm - Top of the ptarmigan to the ciste car park. (2500ft vertical?)
Glencoe - Summit to the bottom of the access chair. (2600ft vertical)
Glenshee - Glas Maol poma. (1500ft vertical)

These are a bi more likely to be skiable, but again not reliable.
Generally the skiable snow level is about 2000ft.

Doug.

Top of the Ptarmigan to Ciste Carpark is 2000ft, or 1650ft to the DayLodge. A route down to Glenmore if it existed would give 2700ft, and add a summit tow would give 2950ft.

The top two longest lift serviced 'runs' in Scotland are:

* The top of Aonach Mor (nevis Range) to the car park (1130m, 3706ft)

* The top of Meall a Bhuiridh (Glencoe) to the car park (803m, 2634ft)

However, as the 'run' from the top of the Gondola (at Nevis Range) is not actually marked on a piste map (i.e is not strictly speaking a run) it gives Glencoe the longest serviced run in Scotland at 2634ft. This can ba skied a few times a season normally (when the snow is right down to the car park).

The longest unserviced run in Scotland is said to be 'Red Burn' on Ben Nevis.

And the steepest (for those of you who don't know) is (by far) The Fly Paper at Glencoe which averages around 45o though can be steeper earlier in the season.

Yet to ski the flypaper, determined to do it sometime this season.

Longest or greatest vertical. I guess longest run (distance) would be from the top of the Summit Run to the bottom of the Alpha via the Back Corries at Nevis Range. It must be a couple of miles and certainly feels that distance when traversing into a NW gale !!!

I'm not sure about the flypaper, sustained gradient yes, but I dont think it reaches the gradient on the upper sections of the entry runs to Coire Dubh at Nevis?

Not managed it in recent years but often skied from Coire Cas down to the Hayfield back in the 80s which I guess is some 700m vertical, although not lift served. MacDhuie to the Lairig Ghru by Tailors burn is also about 700m - one of the best runs in Scotland !

I think the longest in terms of distance is Glas maol , which is 2km. (could be wrong though!)
