Good stuff, Da Kishman. winking smiley

I can bring that up-to-date a little. Attached are pictures of Garbh Choire Mhor and Coire Bhrochain from the 8th September.

GCM still in very decent nick, but CB only has another couple of days (if it hasn't already vanished).

Hi jglen.

Only in exceptional years would Ben MacDhuis patches be likely to survive. They are pretty much fully exposed to the summer sunshine and they are certainly small from the pics posted recently.

A very early Autumn snowfall would be the only hope in an average year.

Firefly may well have some recent MacDhui stats........

As coaster has said, it's unusual for snow to persist on Macdui. That said, the last time it persisted was 2002 (off the top of my head) I think, at Garbh Uisge Beag. I believe the location was the one in this photograph: [forum.winterhighland.info] but I'll verify that for certain.

If the weather cools down in the second half of September and we get some decent early snow then this patch could well survive, but it's long shot I fancy.

Agreed - the most likely to survive this year would be the right hand patch in the above photo - although a similar length to the left hand one, the right hand one, though narrow, was still convex and poss. up to 12' deep.
Not a great looking long term forecast for October though.........sorry!

I agree that the patches round Macdui are looking fragile.

Do you have a grid ref for the 'right hand patch' referred to in the message above.

The right-hand patch is, I believe, at grid reference NH994010. You must have just missed it in your misty journey last weekend!

Was out again yesterday - cairngorm-macdui patches have taken quite a hammering, except maybe garbh uisge beag - some photos for comparison
snowy coire - fragments visible with glasses
Macdui east flank - 1 patch left
Garbh Uisge Beag - left patch very fragmented, right still 8' deep
Feith Buidhe - 1 fragmented patch and 2 small 'lumps' both ~3-4' deep

keep up the good work.thanks firefly for that grid ref. I now have a good idea where that is. Patches are getting a hammering in this mild weather. Forecast for next week is cooler but not sub zero. Da Kishman - attached is a pic of ciste merraid from last sunday ,by far the biggest i encountered- hopefully it will load this time. Garbh coire looks in good nick - would be great if someone would make a trip up there for a closer look. Will try it myself in a couple of weeks

Another Garbh Choire Mhor shot (Lairig Ghru trip yesterday). I think the mist came down by the time I got a look at Coire Bhrochain.
