I've never really been convinced by double cab pickups as daily drive vehicles. Unless you need the huge payload and separated load area a normal 4x4 seems to do everything better...
Pickups usually have leaf springs at the back which results in a bouncy ride when empty and exciting handling in the wet when compared to the coils of most 4x4s.
Surprisingly cramped inside for the size of the exterior - try comparing a shogun and an L200 for example.
Older technology - Most pickups are a generation behind the equivalent 4x4 when it comes to engine and transmission. Again the Shogun gets a modern 3.2 common rail diesel whereas the L200 makes do with the older 2.5TD. The newer engine is more powerful yet does more mpg.
They do look cool though
Seriously though, a Shogun may be worth a look. A friend reckons he gets 35mpg from his LWB 3.2 diesel and he's had no reliability issues.
