Last ski tour was last Sunday above Morzine, at the Mines d'Or (Gold Mines) and snow was either hard and icy in places or quite soft on the South side of the hill.
XC skating was a nice change last month (12th December 10) when I went skiing in the Vanoise area, in a fantastic XC resort named Bessans in the Haute Maurienne vallée. Temperature was minus 10°C but the weather was gorgious with sunshine and blue sky. Snow was excellent. I hadn't been skating for years and the first lap was quite hard as I was hesitating. I had an instructor who gave me some hints and then I felt soon much better and at ease on skis. I really enjoyed having a change from ski touring.

Back on the thin planks after several years.
Tomorrow I will attend the Ski Jumping World Cup in the Jura Mountains. I invited my nephew Florian and it's a surprise trip for him (a birthday present) as I didn't tell him where we are going. There will be two races : ski jumping on the 118 metres ski jump in Chaux Neuve in the morning and then XC skiing race 10 kms in the afternoon. The atmosphere will be huge because the Frenchman Jason Lamy Chappuis is close to win the World Cup title and the race is taking place in his own village. Here are some pics of the Chaux Neuve ski jump and of today's competitions.
Just like for cycling, Jason Lamy Chappuis is wearing the Yellow jersey.
Tomorrow's races in Chaux Neuves will be broadcast on Eurosport if anyone is interested to watch them.
Greetings from the Jura mountains (for a change).
