Hi Nelbert,

Thank you for your report and I am glad you had a great time in the Portes du Soleil. You came exactly at the right time after a good snowfall. Good to see you enjoyed staying in Morzine too.

Greetings from the Portes du Soleil,

Lionel

Yip I certainly did enjoy Lionel. You are very lucky to have all that on your doorstep.

I see its gone back to warm, sunny and settled again as well. We seem to be very fortunate all over the alps, think I'll start looking for a job as a snow charm ;-)

Hi

Video my ski hol 4 Vallees, Switzerland. Most of it done with Drift Innovation HD HD170 headcam. I eliminated the poor weather days from the vid!

9.30am at Kirkwood, those fighting over the first chair have spread out now, time to find some secret statshes off the Cornice Express! Kirkwood delivers where everywhere else failed this week - bluebird powder day. This place could be open for months yet, but closes 24th April, where do the skiers go?

9.30 first chair alan? quite late if you ask me!

here at whistler fresh tracks tickets get you up from 7.15, full buffet breakfast at the top and a rope drop at 8.05 giving you freshies until around 8.35, since the first gondola is at 8.15 and the trip is 20+ minutes.

working a nightshift right now before i get first lift up tomorrow, raining in village quite heavily but will be decent snow up the top, forecast is for 6cm but i reckon 10-15 could be on the cards.

So far this season we have had 1372cm or 540 inches of snow, with more forecast!

whistler mountain shuts end of april but blackcomb is open until end of may, before briefly shutting for a few weeks until the glacier skiing begins. Its been a hell of a season so far, recking up a fair few powder days!

Arrived on a bus that was held up on the road, so went for a coffee and let the initial frenzy sort itself out! Lifts officially open at 9am, but often some are loading from about 8.30, but can be delayed if avalanche control is proving particularly difficult. There's 3 miles of continuous ridgeline where cornices build up above all terrain at Kirkwood that needs to be sorted out!

Ski Patrol often spend the night at the top of Chairs 6 and 10 so avalanche control can start in the early hours, without having to operate the chairlifts (incase they need digging out or high winds are causing problems). Patrol will then return and dig out the off ramps if need be to get more staff up,

Vast majority of skiers are day tripping at Kirkwood, often several hours travelling or more and I reckon even those visiting on holiday the majority day trip up from South Lake Tahoe.

A one hour walk carrying my skis up to Outannaz for a superb ski tour in a paradisiac place. An exceptional location just above my doorstep. That was on April 1st and the conditions were great.

wow, still quite late, bombing often starts in th very early hours here, been woken up at 6 before, usually means its going to be a good day.

fresh tracks ended today, meaning first lift is at 8.15, def worth going in early to get the first lines down.

spent today hiking flute bowl for some fresh turns, best powder runs in the nice trees. after that went into international where there were some sick turns and some biiiig cliffs. 10-15 cm forecast tonight, can not wait!!

I spent the last two weeks riding/working out in Tignes, hitting up most of the Espace Killy area. They're definitely into summer weather now, with temps regulary hitting 18C in Val Claret.

Anyway, here are a couple of videos from the fortnight.

Wow ! It's been snowing in Avoriaz and the resort is all covered in white, so I am going to get ready for a ski tour tomorrow morning.

On May 26th I went ski-touring up on the Hauts-Forts slopes in Avoriaz. Excellent weather and the snow was quite good : firm base and slightly soft and spring snow on top. It was really enjoyable to be back on the planks after a while.
