"THIS is snow joke. A scientist has found a way of prolonging the notoriously fickle Scottish ski season - by wrapping mountains in bubble wrap.
Despite two bumper winters with plentiful snowfall, the country's five ski resorts suffer badly when temperatures rise and melt the snow and high winds drive the white stuff off the pistes, leaving extensive bare patches...."(click link below for more info)

It would need to be some bubble wrap given that during the 48 hour hairdryer the other week that really put the boot into the Season, wind was sustained for a period at the tunnel mouth at 135mph!

Mmmmmmmm - why would you want to use it to cover patches in high traffic areas ? Unless somebody is proposing that they shut skiing during the week, to keep the snow for weekends.

However, using bubble-wrap (or white blankets, which is an already proven concept in use in the alps) to extend the life of large stockpiles of man made snow, strategically located next to high traffic areas might be a good idea. But I can't help but think that the already proven, and more heavyweight blankets would be more appropriate for Scottish winds.
