Patrolling the wild ungroomed ski terrain of La Grave
Date Posted: 12.13hrs on Fri 13 Jan 12
Of all European ski areas, La Grave (and its mountain La Meije) is unique. Huge vertical, lift-served by one gondola (and a wonderful long t-bar that climbs the glacier above) but entirely ungroomed runs. Definitely no snowmaking. In short, the mountain has very few pylons, buildings or other accessories of the modern ski world. I've been there on a couple of trips and found it utterly magnificent.

This fascinating video explains the unique ski patrolling (education, essentially) philosophy and method.

Could it be applied to Scotland ... e.g. Glencoe?

The website 2alpesnet.com is reporting that a guide and client died yesterday in a ski descent at La Grave:
