I got an account earlier and it had 14 invites left, although there are none left now. Keep checking as people add invites all the time.
And for anyone who doesn't know what Gmail is. Its is google's version of email , its a Beta version just now , so you can only sign up with invites.
It's great as it gives you 1 gb storage and filters spam out for you. They aim to make sure people never have to delete another email. It has many cool features!
