any fishers?
Date Posted: 20.51hrs on Mon 5 Jun 06
I'm getting back into fly fishing for trout after, lets see - 23 years!

Planning to do a bit of camping around Scotland this summer. Anybody any tips for good lochs with wild brownies and bank fishing?

Whats the scoop at Loch Morlich? Any good spots?

No expert, but here's a couple of options:-

Glen Clova: The river has good bank fishing, permit from Kirriemuir tackle shop, if you want a Salmon ticket. - There are good trout in the river, can't vouch for the salmon.

Also, Loch Brandy, up a hill path behind the Clova Hotel. - Free bank fishing, don't think it's heavily fished, but it's a nice spot.

Skye: Loch Slappin, at Torrin. - At the north tip, there is a short river, fed by a small freshwater loch. - There are Brownies in the loch & short river section feeding into Loch Slappin. - Skye is generally a good walking/fishing visit.

Never fished the lochs between Bridge of Orchy & Kingshouse, always looked good from the roadside. - Anybody know?

Thanks all, will try those, but oh man. Just been up in Ullapool for a week and discovered Assynt. The Assynt Crofters Trust lay on about 200 lochs at a fiver a day. Hard fighting little brownies, and the scenery is mindblowing.

my brothers, dad and I were staying in bothy near Gairloch last week, fishing on Loch and Draing, no permit required as no one seems to know who owns land now.
One of my brothers got 40 trout in a few hours. He had 3 flys on line, and got 2 trout at a time several times! and 3 at a time twice!
they were generally small trout, but hard fighters. We only kept a couple of the slightly larger 1/2-lb'ers to cook on fire, others went back in loch alive.

we had planned to head on to Assynt afterwards to camp and fish, and visit lochinver pie shop!!, but after being in bothy, couldnt face midges camping!
so headed back to Grantown and took rifles out instead
