Anyone off to the Alps...

I'd start doing your snow dances now.

Could have boarded last week in Val Thorens in a tshirt. Pistes somewhat bare lower down! (see attached pic although the funny thing about that shot is that the conditions were even poorer before the sign)

Hmm, I was in Val Thorens the week before last and it was very cold, at that end of the week it was -15 in the resort at midday. There was a big dump during the week and on there was snow lying on the ground all the way back to Geneva. The snow was okay in VT but in Les Menuires and Meribel it was getting a bit thin lower down.

By the end of the week an ice-axe and crampons would have been of more use in places!

Snow making running full pelt from the moment the sun went down until dawn the next day.

Hmm, 1st time in 3 years I've not been to canada and of course they seem to be having an epic season.

Still I think I got my best ever "bad skiware" pictures this year..

It'll be fun anyway snow, good snow or bad snow.

There will be a few culture shocks if youve only ever skied here!

Some things that stick in my mind... All IMHO of course smiling smiley

Obviously the runs are much, much longer than anything we have. When we 1st went abroad we needed a few rest breaks on the way down (lack of fitness contributing)Encounters with other skiers/boarders stopping in stupid places on the runs is more likely.

After the debate on sharing tows it was interesting last week to see big 4/6/8 people chairs with empty spaces even when it was busy.

Chairs which slow down when they are loading & unloading. (Even moving carpets on some of them, and heated seats!)

Learning here means any drag lifts you may encounter will not be a problem, I think I've seen more incidents of (mostly skiers) falling off them.

Crevasses on glacier runs! I'll dig out a picture of the Val thorens one thats been blatantly filled in with snow by a piste basher.

European queuing etiquette.. be prepared to have your planks skied over in the lift queue at speed!

Be amazed at how much a small plate of chips costs in france (dont know about alp'dheuz but generally the lower down I go the cheaper things get on the hill)

And my favourite one of all. You'll probably meet the infamous braying british skiers...
