Surely a remap and a set of semi-slicks would do the trick

Hahahah, it did kinda get recycled not as much as planned. One my older cousins bought accident damaged cars doon south and shipped them tae Ireland back tae the farm tae get sold aff in bits, and when my uncle wisnae aboot me n the troops used tae take the running ones oot and boot the arse aff them tae they fell apart..

Edit: The subject of cars is quite a good thing on Global warming, my mate has a new audi and its diesel and fast as fook for a big car, now we should aw ban petrol and use some natural stuff tae burn in the diesel engines instead of that crap, they can do it.. And its should be tax free!!

Supermarket diesel is part mixed with bio diesel. Only these new diesels with particulate filters can't run on bio as it clogs em up. One of volkswagen racing's mod is to fool the ecu the diesel is colder than it is. Squirts more in, more power more economy but... more soot.. Thats your basic tuning box!

The desiel engine wis produced tae run on natural oil though(i think) and the hill billys jumped on it as it could run on the waste product fae producing petrol which is desiel( i think).

I dont think Man made warming is tae blame, but i know we need a cleaner planet wi less shitty chemicals etc in our food and clothing and everything else we use..

Bring back the hippy!!

GW your correct. Rudolph Diesel invented the engine to run on peanut oil, then fuel was invented. And diesel is a by product of petrol.

We do need better foods though minus the crap in them.

Can't run chip fat on a new VW TDI engine. Because of direct injection, the piston tops aren't flat, and have a cone recessed in them to swirl the diesel as it's injected in, shame because if I could get vege oil in, it'd be. Older diesels with the injectors in the inlet manifolds prior the valves are fine apparently.

Hippy's rule.. esp the chicks.. free lovin...

I used to have an old escort van I ran happily on waste cooking oil (was going out with a girl who was a chef at the time) and it ran fine. Had to had a spot of parrafin in the winter to give a higher flash point - and it did smell like a mobile chip shop. Luckily I like chips.

After I saw it on the telly I bought a load of veg oil from the great god Tesco.Worked fine in my Renault Kangoo mixed 50/50 with diesel. Just tried it the once as I couldnt be bothered lugging gallons of veg oil out of the supermarket. Potentially it was cheaper as there is no fuel tax on cooking oil.
Diesel is actually 35 second fuel oil which is why some unscrupelous members of the community use heating oil instead (not in the north where heating oil is 28 second fuel oil - paraffin)

Aparently if you do start using veg oil in your car you are suposed to declare it so that you can pay up the extra tax to the goverment.

Guy across road uses it in his Toyota Hilux surf. Very happy on it. Window cleaner uses it too. It's good for the engines too as it lubricates the bores better.

I know you have to declare it if you refine old vege oil.

For VAG owners, don't use veggie oil if you've got a PD. You'll clog your injectors and your pumps won't get lubricated and have a really rather expensive repair bill in both labour and parts when the engine dies. Even when using biodiesel, keep an eye on what is valid for your PD engine (will be in your manual) as the newest models are very specific to what they can cope with.

The non-PD turbo diesels (e.g. 90bhp and 110bhp engines) can cope with 3/4 mix of veg oil to derv in the summer, but the winter, best to stick to 1/5 max as veg oil is thick until it reaches 70 degrees C (which is why it clogs up the injector nozzles in the PD engines).

For non-turbo diesels, you can pretty much get away with anything.

As for tax, you can use up to 2,500 litres of veg oil for non-commericial use in a year. Anything over that and you pay tax.

Full duty ULSD is now 10ppm sulphur, and is the stuff for legal use in road vehicles.

Gasoil 35sec (aka red diesel, tractor diesel, etc) is a different spec diesel with a red dye added (so Customs and Excise can easily test for traces in your tank). It can be used in some domestic oil boilers subject to adjustment to the burner nozzles, but legally requires a long exhaust. WARNING: Customs and Excise particularly look to test 4x4's in rural areas for evidence of Gasoil in the fuel-lines, so if you put it in, you may end up in jail.

Likewise, they have 4x4's in target for cooking oil usage, and the current interpretation is that any on-road vehicle usage is illegal, commercial or not !

28 sec Fuel oil is Kerosene (sometimes called paraffin but not paraffin oil, although from a similar level distillate) and is used for most domestic oil boilers, oil-fired steam trains, and planes. It is not recommended for car engines of any sort.

I find with Ultra Low Sulphur Diesel, esp Esso I get very Low MPG, so I stick with Shell Diesel Extra. I know it has a higher cetane level for better combustion/power etc. I use an additive to get the cetane higher while cleaning the turbo internals.
