Techie PC Question
Date Posted: 21.03hrs on Fri 9 Feb 07
It appears that my IE7 has just decided to stop displaying certain pictures. I have managed to deduce that it is having issues with .png files.
Now this is all a bit weird as it was working fine and now it is not, it all started going wrong last night.
Now I do recall that my PC had a bit of a fit when I turned it on yesterday evening and I do remember a message about a registry file summit or other and that a problem had occured.
Does anyone know how to fix it as the little red crosses I get in some images on sites is REALLY annoying! Google searches have not been of any use so far.

Fuck IE!

Just had a look at this site in IE7 - various bits of code display the opposite from what it should or different colours... why does MS always feel the need to screw standards. Only MS could have a browser that has a border-bottom tag result in a border at the top.

It really p1sses me off when IE screws things. Good old Microsh1t (or Microshaft if you want)!!!
It worked fine on Wednesday and now if I go to a site, any site, that is using .png picture types all I get is a blank image and a red cross - sweet sad smiley
In fact what made me chuckle is that when I open a new tab in IE7 I even get the error on those pages . . pages that Microsh1t have designed and packaged with the browser . . . well done Billy Boy Gates!!
I am sure that it is a problem with the registry file that apparantly died last night. All I need to do is a roll-back system restore. Fantastic seeing as how I have spent most of tonight updating software to see if that fixes it.
The .png's are fine in Photoshop CS2, just not in IE7 or Outlook sad smiley
If I find another solution rather than roll-back I will post it here.
Thanks anyway guys.
Andy.

Standard answer for microsoft complaints coming up ...

[www.ubuntu.com] for my laptop & [fedora.redhat.com] for the desktop.

And the funny thing is with wine (http://www.winehq.com/) I can run the few windows apps I need like memory map pretty much flawlessly. Even ie will run.

But I accept its probably not most peoples cup of tea and I've been lucky in that all my hardware is supported Although even my dad had ubuntu up and running with no assistance

I liked apples osx when I used it but the hardware is stupidly expensive.

Had the crossover-office app on linux for a while that allowed MS office to run in X-windows on linux and if anything despite the extra layer it was as stable and fast as on XP. It apparently supports a lot more Windows applications now (is derived from the wine project) but I no longer use it, since I've started using OpenOffice which means I can have the same application natively on both XP and Linux. smiling smiley

But I expanded so much effort tweaking the site after getting the code standard complaint to make things look the same in IE6 that my heart sunk on loading up IE7 sad smiley

There isn't major issues that affect usability (apart from those experiencing the png bug) but things just don't layout quite like they should.

It's a shame that they didn't go for a G6 - Apple said there would have been heat problems with G6 laptops.

But then, intel laptops after a 20 minutes are like a furnace door.

On the original question - use Firefox!
