I think, the situation has come around in almost absurd way.

For 40 or so years, the liberal experiment in Britain has been to create a multi-cultural society, where all cultures, from both within and without, are equal and equally valid. Somewhere along the way, the indiginous culture was almost forgotten as a sort of embarrassing relic. (the rise in Nationalsim, both north and south of the border, against the backdrop, is no suprise).

I hope that it is realised that we have something special because it needs to be protected and nurtured.

MMMMMMMMM, Was that what one was saying.. They have tried tae quash our culture and history for the sad fact of us not feeling Scottish and wanting to deal with our own Scottish things, and yes it didn't work.. Rebel heart!.. God I mind them teaching us a little on King Aurthur and Merlin, lol.. Was Merlin not fae up here, a Celtic warrior?

I've not got the time tae go through aw ya wrote the now, but earlier ya said about them teaching world history. I'm all for it but when it came down tae them teaching Scottish they never did, or only very small bits, it was all british history more on the side of the english things and things that affecded them. Not us....

And Huslter had the same as moi, teachers/ mostly foreign or tied tae the crown telling me "cannae" "tae" is uneducated stupidness etc And Gailic was frowned upon and the way of the enghlish is superior.. Pure bull....

Scots and english languages evolved at the same time, and it was the Scottish that went on and created all the great invention of this world, must be thick!

Any other decent festivals on? lol

Aye, get yourself to the Outsider at Aviemore on 22-24 June.
Bring a bike and do the Merida. Preferably on a big bike so you can steamroller the downhills.
Then lets see who can spill the most beer down their WH tee-shirt.

Of course, no one language is superior to any other.

I would agree with the argument that English is the most useful language, because it is the defacto Human language now, so yes, all children, if they are to succeed in this world need to learn English to a decent level.

But it is a crying shame how, for the past two generations, British culture (from all corners of this island) which includes the history and languages of the indiginous peoples has been marginalised by the liberal elite who seem to have a quite nasty agenda.

Fareweel to a' our Scottish fame,
Fareweel our ancient glory!
Fareweel ev'n to the Scottish name.
Sae famed in martial story!
Now Sark rins over Salway sands,
An' Tweed rins to the ocean,
To mark where England's province stands --
Such a parcel of rogues in a nation!

What force or guile could not subdue
Thro' many warlike ages
Is wrought now by a coward few
For hireling traitor's wages.
The English steel we could disdain,
Secure in valour's station;
But English gold has been our bane --
Such a parcel of rogues in a nation!

O, would, or I had seen the day
That Treason thus could sell us,
My auld grey head had lien in clay
Wi' Bruce and loyal Wallace!
But pith and power, till my last hour
I'll mak this declaration :-
'We're bought and sold for English gold'--
Such a parcel of rogues in a nation!

Robert Burns - 1791

Are the rouges English? Or are they Scots who sold out for gold?

Anyway - My dad has a leather bound edition of Burns' poetry, signed by the man himself! He signed it to "with love to Sarah Dunlop", my dad's mother's great-great-great-etc-grandmother. Could be worth a few bob.

The sell oot traitors who are aw sitting there twiddling their 13 fingers and every so often slowly raise one of their twisted arms up tae scratch their hump, while gazing out through their 3 eyes at the land they stole. They are not Scottish, they live here, but ya ever heard any of em speak, the speak like folk who pump horses, and their kin!..

Such a parcel of rouges! Puuuuuuuurrrre Inbreads of the highest bucktoothed horse loving twisty boned honking order known tae man, beast an alien!....
------------------------------------------

Could be worth a few bob? it would be worth a packet.. Some overblown yank who still walks aboot in the kilt and talks aboot the old land and has only ever set foot in the country for 5 days, and was in a bus most of it talking pish would snap it up..

the condition of the book is pretty shabby - worn and sometimes torn pages. It's been well used over the years (centuries!). I'll take it on the Antiques Roadshow one day next time they are around.
