Have you ever seen a Brocken spectre when hillwalking ?
Date Posted: 12.33hrs on Thu 17 May 07
A friend of a friend saw one a few years ago and he didn't know what it was. He was walking on his own and he was really scared as the Brocken spectre was moving when he was walking. He thought it was a ghost.

It's something quite rare but I would love to see it, one day. Here are some pictures of Brocken Spectres and the explanation.

The explanation given on Wikipedia :

Lionel - Here is one I saw on Buchaille Etive Beag in Glencoe.
Taking the photo with out disturbing the brochen spectre can be tricky...

Janaury is often the best time of year to see them as the sun is low in the sky.
Quite often get them at the top of the spring run at Glencoe - especially late in the day.

Jamison, Doug and II,

Thanks for your posts and for the great pics. So it seems that Brocken spectres are quite common in Scotland. I have never seen any of them, in the Alps. If you have other pictures, please post them. Thanks.

Greetings from the Alps,

Lionel

Thanks, I've seen them in France too but never had the camera handy as it was on the Marais chair in Tignes and my camera was in the depths of my rucksack.
