Alrighty all...

Thought I would share a few photos from recent week long cycle tour round the western isles of Scotland.

Actually the first time I had ever been to the outer isles - and have to confess that I am now wondering why I have never been before... The Hebrides rock !thumbs up

And the £43 island hop scotch pass is a bargain if your cycling cool smiley

Here is a map of the route we took. From Barra to Lewis, via Eriskay, South Uist, Benbecula, North Uist, Berneray and Harris....

Ferry from Oban to Castlebay takes 5 hours... Plenty time for a beer winking smiley

From the highest point on Barra, looking south to the uninhabited islands of Mingulay and Pabhay.

No fun on the Lords Day...

Small fishing boat in the Minch... with Suilven behind (according to Brucey!)

Just need to find a method of attaching a surfboard to the bike panniers...
Defn one of my favourite parts of Scotland cool smiley

Great pictures Doug ! Well done, that's a very nice tour. I hope it wasn't too wet.

Should you have been cycling on the "Lord's Day"?

Managed to get sun burnt and soaked with rain on the same day. Classic Scottish weather. The beaches and the azure / clear water colour is amazing...

Anyone else ever taken a bike to the western isles ?
They are ideal for cycling - not too many cars or hills winking smiley

How did ya get aboot on the mainland if ye had the bikes?

Did ya train it or can ya do a round trip leaving from yer car and back?

Grow-wild,

Yip, well spotted, getting to the ferry with a bike can be a pain.

We took the train to Oban on the way out. On the way back we planned on cycling from Ullapool to the train station at Garve. However luckily managed to hitch a lift to Inverness train station from a lorry driver we met on the ferry grinning smiley

Some folk cycling the Western isles head back via Skye, then cycle back to Oban or the train station at Kyle of Localsh.

Looks like it was a great week. Had look at 'haggistrap' and pic 17 of the remote cove is a cracker.

'Cycling on a hebridean beach is a nice way to get your chain rusty '

Don't remind me. The bike I had as teenager was never the same again, after two of us thought that cycling out to Cramond Island would be a fun way to spend the afternoon. I reckon that's why I'm still not fond of beaches!
