One newscaster filmed a car at 60mph and ran the clip at x3 speed. - Another news prog said "fast enough to lift a 747 off the runway".

But the winner was BBC News24 at lunchtime..."an incedible 172mph.- To help you understand such speed, that's almost 3 miles every second!"

And the BBC said Tony Blair was sexing it up! - - Back to school for basic numeracy.

About 6ft wide!

It's a mile about every 23 seconds, and yes it's fast. used to do bike racing and did the ManxGP a few times, I got up to 160 mph round the course at certain points. My mate this year went through the speed trap at 169.8 over there (while racing)

Doing this on a public road is hairy in itself, even when the roads are closed to the public and safely precautions in place, to do this without is just brain dead...

BTW, to put it into perspective, skiing at 40mph scares the hell out of me compared to 150mph on a bike, and as far as kicks go, skiing wins hands down..
