I was quite interested to read this sentence from an article titled 'Snowcraft in Scotland' written 116 years ago ...

"Dangerous avalanches occur ordinarily where fresh snow lies on the top of ice, and are not likely to be encountered in Scotland."
... which I'm not sure if the SAIS would approve of.
